Once he's been discovered though, to keep him and his grandfather safe he agrees to enroll at Easton Magic Academy to become a "Divine Visionary", a being with the power to change society. To avoid being noticed, Mash usually lives out in the woods away from society. Mash Burnedead is a being without any magic born in a world where people without magic are usually killed to keep society "pure". Too bad he also winds up convincing Lum he's in love with her, leaving him stuck with an alien princess that's suddenly obsessed with him.
However, when Ataru mentions a marriage proposal he received from his childhood crush, he distracts Lum long enough to save the planet. This is where Ataru meets Lum, an alien with flight and electricity powers who's able to avoid all of Ataru's attempts to catch her.

The series focuses on Ataru Moroboshi, a high schooler who's randomly chosen to win a game of tag to save Earth from being conquered by an alien planet. Of course, while there's nothing wrong with the original, for many newer fans it might be easier to try the series with a fresh coat of paint and with glorious HD animation. A classic anime from Rumiko Takahashi, Urusei Yatsura's characters and tropes were so popular they affect even modern romcom series.
Remakes in the anime industry are common, but not often are they as well received as the one beloved '80s romcom Urusei Yatsura received.
